Virtualisation = App-V test streaming utility

App-V test streaming utility: Streamer.vbs

I wrote this utility to speed up the testing of App-V packages. The idea is that you sequence your package, then instead of having to add it the App-V server/add it to SCCM/install the auto-generated MSI you can just right-click one of the OSD files and choose to install or remove the App-V package.
Features:
  • Win XP/Vista/7 x86 and x64 compatible
  • Can be run as normal (non-admin) user and the script will prompt for admin credentials as needed.
  • Can be run on clients where the App-V server is managing App-V apps, or SCCM is managing App-V apps (when SCCM manages the App-V apps the App-V client is reconfigured to use different exes to manage the local App-V packages)
  • Adds right-click ‘Add’, ‘Remove’ and ‘Edit’ menus to OSD files (Edit opens the OSD in notepad.exe)
  • Supports adding/deleting packages from UNC or mapped drive, or from local source.
Usage:
  • Right click OSD file, ‘Add’ to add package. Note that the script will check if the package is installed before it adds it. If it is, it removes it first.
  • Right click OSD file, ‘Remove’ to remove package.
  • Right click OSD file, ‘Edit’ to open the file in notepad.
Alternative method for adding/removing apps:
  • Add package – Drag any file in the App-V package folder onto the script.
  • Remove package – Drag the parent folder onto the script.
Log file: %TEMP%\Streamer.log
It goes without saying that script is for test purposes only, and should be used on machines (ideally virtual) which can be easily reverted in case of problems.
